Cardiff by the Sea (or just “Cardiff”) is a small beach community only 2.5 miles long, sitting along the Pacific Ocean and just above the San Elijo Lagoon. It is a part of the City of Encinitas along with the communities of Leucadia and Olivenhain. Cardiff has a population of about 12,000 people as well as its own zip code (92007). Cardiff by the Sea real estate includes a variety of home styles ranging from modern and luxury to classic inviting beach cottages, all of which often feature ocean views or a short walk to the beach.
There are many recreational and outdoor activities in Cardiff by the Sea, including camping, surfing, and other beach activities. Parks include George Berkich Park, San Elijo Lagoon Ecological Reserve, and San Elijo Park and campground along San Elijo State Beach. This site offers camping along the beach. Additionally Glen Park, on Orinda Drive, offers a play area for young kids, and horseshoes, basketball, tennis and beach volleyball.
Cardiff is known for its beach and surf culture as well as for a selection of amazing restaurants, most of which are right along the beach. Famous shops and restaurants include Seaside Market, VG Donut & Bakery, Pacific Coast Grill, and Las Olas.
Cardiff by the Sea Schools
Cardiff by the Sea real estate is a part of the Encinitas Union School District for elementary school and the San Dieguito Union High School Disctrict (SDUHSD) for middle and high school. These school districts are among the best not only in California, but in the nation. There are 2 elementary schools, 1 preschool, and 1 private school in the small community of Cardiff. The two elementary schools are Ada W. Harris Elementary School and Cardiff Elementary School. The preschool is Learning Tree Peschool, and the private school is Village Gate Children’s Academy.
Cardiff by the Sea Beaches
Cardiff-by-the-Sea State Beach is one of the most interesting and quirky state beaches. Located just west of the 101 pacific highway, you can stop by here and enjoy the sun and the surf with your family, and even your (leashed) dog! Cardiff State Beach is a gently sloping sandy beach with warm water. In the water you will likely see many swimmers and boogie boarders, as well as surfers. Many locals come here as well as people on vacation, because this beautiful panoramic beach is popular year-round.
