Leucadia is a smaller neighborhood that exists within the larger 20 square mile city of Encinitias. Leucadia real estate is known for it’s eclectic style of homes, boasting some of North County’s most beautiful modern luxury homes, while at the same time many funky costal cottages.

The community of Leucadia has a small town feel and laid back vibe, and it’s connection to the Pacific Ocean creates a very prominent surf and beach culture felt throughout town. It features tree-lined streets and boulevards. You will see many people riding their bikes to the beach, or even golf carts throughout the streets. Leucadia boasts three main somewhat secluded beaches. It is also popular for great schools and shopping. The local shopping includes art galleries, unusual stores, and restaurants. A famous saying in the local community is to “keep Leucadia funky.”

Leucadia’s three beaches Grandview, Beacon’s, and Stone Steps are known for being along the bluffs and somewhat secluded feel. You can spot many surfers and feel the lifestyle that accompanies this surf culture. A famous business in Leucadia is the Leucadia Surf School. They have been around for 17 years and are one of the best surf schools in San Diego.

 

Leucadia Schools

Leucadia real estate exists within the Encinitas Union School district for elementary school, in addition to the San Dieguito Union High School Disctrict (SDUHSD). There are 9 elementary schools in the area along with several private schools. Two of the main elementary schools include Paul Ecke Central Elementary School and Capri Elementary School.

Leucadia Beaches

Leucadia State Beach is a great local beach and it may be the least touristy of all the state beaches. Leucadia State Beach is made up of two beach access points in the Leucadia neighborhood of northern Encinitas, CA. Driving down the 101 (North Coast Highway), there are no state park signs pointing you to the beach just a couple blocks west, only subtle public beach access signs around the neighborhood.

The two beaches if you drive a little further south from Leucadia State Beach are Beacon’s and Grandview. The first is west on Leucadia Boulevard from Coast Highway and the other is west on Grandview Street. Both have small parking lots that fill up quickly. You will find many surfers here and locals relaxing on the sand. The surfing is good most of the time. When the tide is not high, it’s possible to walk on the one-mile stretch of sand between these beaches without getting your feet wet.

From the staircase at Grandview it is another half-mile beach walk north to South Ponto Beach and from Beacon’s it is 3/4-mile to Stone Steps Beach, another hidden Encinitas beach access.
